Technology surrounds us in our everyday lives. We are now reliant on computers and the Internet. The inexorable rise in computer use has thrown up a plethora of complex issues in this new electronic age. In Computing and ICT we aim to equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to be able to use computers safely and responsibly as well as building skills in the rapidly evolving area of programming along with learning digital application skills. It is hoped that the learning of these three main strands will contribute to effective and competent digital citizens.
The subject is very popular at Crispin, simply because it is so relevant to young people’s lives.
Key Stage 3
Learning at Key Stage 3 covers a wide range of topics within Computing and ICT. One very important aspect is the safe use of the Internet. Students will learn about the multitude of threats that are constantly evolving and changing and how to effectively reduce or remove these threats.
Other areas which are covered include the use of a broad selection of digital applications including communication platforms, spreadsheets, databases, digital imaging and website design. There is also an introduction to programming through the use of Scratch and Small Basic. Students learn important strategies for solving problems, designing projects and communicating ideas.

Key Stage 4
Students are studying the BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award in Digital Information Technology.
As the course is a practical introduction to life and work in the industry, students can explore the sector while:
- Developing technical skills and technique,
- Planning a digital solution for a given brief,
- Developing an understanding of what cyber security is and the importance of legal and ethical considerations when using modern technologies.
The course has two internally assessed components and one that is externally assessed.
